Right.I just had a newsletter from Michael D. Higgins delivered through the door and I've read it through(boys and husband en route and cat behaving itself)because I have a little time on my hands.Without actually telling anyone how I vote (and I do not always give my No 1 preference to any one party-it depends on our own personal issues as a family) I will say that out of the entire bunch of gobshites who offer themselves as candidates in this country, I probably have most respect for the Labour party, for various reasons.Things have changed around there since the days of Jim Larkin but the word 'labour' itself means something to anyone who remembers living in Ireland in the 1980's.I was a child and my parents had jobs but that wasn't the case for most. They have also to my knowledge, not been caught out in the skulduggery and corruption that has been prevalent in some other parties (as I say to my knowledge and perhaps they just haven't been caught at it). They aren't without their scandals though.. Emmet Stagg lookin' for love in the Phoenix park anyone?..in fairness once he does his job as a public representative I don't really have an interest in what he shops for.
Anyway Michael D. Higgins' newsletter..full of the usual, some achievable some not and some plain mental but I'm assuming this was printed up by some member of the party faithful at labour party HQ and edited to include the mention of Galway (where he is a serving TD) but not a mention of what is a really big issue for anyone living in Galway at the moment. The bloody water! or should I say the dirty water..yes folks the water here is still undrinkable..if you read my previous post regarding this you'll know that there's been a parasite in the water here for the last month (the council only notified the public about two weeks ago) and we can't drink the water or brush teeth without boiling it first.
So great Michael D. I'm delighted that you guys intend to make few changes in the unlikely event that you end up in government after the next election but what I really want to know is..could I just have a glass of clean water please?.
Is it just me?

A good piece and glad to hear someone has taken on a Dublin-centred hegemony in issues.
